Intro
Tracking rate measures how much of your spend from dynamic ads or campaigns is connected to your revenue, measured as a percentage for each individual market. As this value decreases from 100%, the risk of data loss increases which can lead to problems with accurate data reporting and subsequent issues with generating actionable insights for your product performance.
In order to avoid this potential data loss, it's important to maintain visibility of your tracking rate by observing the factors that can compromise it:
Not all your ads are tracked
You are not using automatic tracking
Not all UTM parameters associated with Ad IDs are connected
Not all campaign types are specified as either static or dynamic
Q: What is an acceptable threshold of tracking rate accuracy? Is 70-80% okay for some markets?
A: Since the tracking rate effectively represents the validity of all conclusions you make from related data insights, the assumed level of acceptable inaccuracy for your business goals is none; full accuracy is vital.
For context, we would consider a tracking rate under 90% to be poor, and in need of attention.
How to Check
Usage
To check the tracking rate, follow the steps below:
Navigate to Settings > Markets and Assets > select a market > select the Tracking tab. The tracking rate will be displayed on the right side of the respective panel.
If there is a problem with the tracking rate, it will be indicated with a red triangle warning symbol in the name of the tab.
If there is a problem with the ability to calculate the tracking rate (such as unassigned UTM parameters), the tracking rate indicator will not be displayed, and the relevant warning banner will appear instead. Correcting the problem described will then display the tracking rate.
To investigate issues and correct them, click the "Set Manual tracking" button in the appropriate panel. UTM parameters which have revenue but are not included in campaigns will be shown here.
UTM parameters can be manually connected individually by clicking the "Edit UTM parameters" button
They can also be automatically connected in bulk by clicking the "Set in bulk" button which compares UTM campaigns and possible Matching Campaigns (any remaining ad revenue must be assigned manually).
Click "Recalculate data" on the right side of the respective panel to apply changes.
The tracking rate indicator updates within approximately 10-15 minutes.
Meta vs Google Tracking Rate
Meta: Depending on the factors of your setup, UTM parameters and revenue from Meta ads may need to be manually assigned in cases without automatic tracking. If there are UTM parameters used in campaigns which are not included in the Tracking tab information, a warning will be displayed instead of a Tracking rate percentage.
Google: Google ads are typically paired automatically by the campaign name. However, in certain cases such as custom setups it may be necessary to manually assign the relevant information.
Tracking Rate Solutions
There are appropriate preventative solutions depending on the problems leading to inadequate tracking rate:
Use automatic tracking; this is the best solution with the least amount of work to achieve 100% tracking rate in full or in part (to follow up with manual tracking in situations with less than 100%)
Create all campaigns from within the ROIH platform
Apply manual tracking, in cases where the two criteria above are not possible
Confirm all UTM parameters to identify ads are present
Associate all UTM parameters with an ad type and connected campaign
To set up manual tracking, follow the instructions here: How to Enable Manual Tracking.
