Google Analytics 4 in Product Insights / Google Product Filter Builder

Updated over 2 years ago

You have the option to utilize your Google Analytics 4 to analyze the revenue of your products in both Product Insights and Google Product Filter Builder. The setup process is straightforward and entails connecting the Google Analytics 4 property to the same market as the catalog you wish to view the data in.

Here are the steps to set it up:

  1. In the Markets & Assets page, connect the Google Analytics 4 property that you want to see data from to your market.

  2. Connect the Ad Account with Catalog or Ad Account with Google Product Source on which you want to view revenue to the same market.

  3. To ensure the functionality of both Catalog/Google Product Source and Google Analytics properties, both need to be properly connected to the Inventory, which involves assigning a Product Hierarchy Level. If you need assistance with this setup or would like to confirm that it has been completed correctly, our support team is available to help.

  4. Once the Google Analytics property and Catalogs/Product Sources are connected to the Market and the Product Inventory, you can find the data in the following places:

    • In Catalog Management

    • In Product Insights (through Customize view)

    • In Google Product Sources

Keep in mind that only one GA4 property can be connected to one catalog. After selecting the property, it may take some time for the data to be paired with your products.

If you require assistance with this setup or need a check to ensure that the setup is correct, please reach out to our support team.

FAQ

1.If I have 1 GA4 account for all markets, in this case, which country should I choose while connecting the GA4?

A country filter is available during the GA4 connection to the market. Insert the country you want to filter or keep it blank if you only have one market. This filter is not considered for Campaign Insights, so there will always be visible whole, unfiltered revenue from the GA4 property (for ad accounts connected on the same market and for tracked ads)

2. What is the difference between product level and variant level 1 under the product hierarchy level? What level should I choose?

In general, and for now, if you have the same setup of GA SKUs in the GA4 as you had in GA-U, you should select the same level as you had in GA-U. The alternative is to keep it blank and ask support to set this up for you.

3. When I connect GA4 within product insight, will this data be reflected on the Overview tab in the catalogue?

No, GA4 is not supported in the catalogue overview.

4. Compared to UGA, GA4 does not have the transaction metrics at the product level, so is it okay to use unique purchase data instead of the transaction when I switch to using GA4?

In GA4, is “item quantity” column = the number of items that have been sold. This value * price = item revenue. I believe that this is what you are looking for. We intentionally used the same naming as GA4 is using to be consistent.

5. Since transaction data at the product level do not exist under GA4, how is our segment "best seller" defined? Based on unique purchases, top 20%?

Bestsellers still have the same definition = products with the top 20% of the revenue.
