Google is retiring Universal Analytics on July 1 2023 (July 1 2024 for Analytics 360 properties). To prevent data loss, we strongly encourage you to switch to Google Analytics 4 as soon as possible.
This article will instruct in the steps of this transition for the ROIH platform.
Connect GA4 to your markets in the Markets and Assets menu:
In the ROIH platform, in the left sidebar menu, browse to Settings > Markets and Assets > Analytical Assets tab:
2. If the SKUs are identical and the GA4 setup is the same as the UA setup, use the same Product Hierarchy Level when the connection to the market is done.
The metrics that ROIH requires in order to run GA4 properly are as follows:
For Campaign insights, you need to track Ad ID in campaignId, sessionCampaignId, firstUserCampaignId or in manualAdContent, sessionManualAdContent, firstUserManualAdContent (depends on the scope Event/Session/User), otherwise stats are not processed since we can’t pair them to campaigns.
For campaigns data, ideally we also need these metrics: purchaseRevenue, transactions (or conversions:purchase).
For product data we download these four metrics: itemsViewed, itemRevenue, itemsPurchased, itemsAddedToCart. Ideally, there should also be some advert object identifier like campaign/adset/ad ID (can be FB or RH ID) in sessionCampaignId.
In general we prefer having Ad ID for FB in campaignId, sessionCampaignId, firstUserCampaignId or manualAdContent, sessionManualAdContent, firstUserManualAdContent.
For Google there can be campaign ID as some of the Google campaigns may not have ads (like Performance Max).
3. Select from which GA4 property you want to see data on Catalog > Data Sources or Product Insights and in Google Product Filters.
4. Customize your view in reports by clicking “Customize view” for Campaign Insights, Products Insights, Product Group Builder:
5. Change the GA metrics to GA4 metrics. You can briefly keep both sources of data in the report to compare and make sure it’s working correctly:
6. Validate the correct setup of your Product Sets, Product Filters, and Autorules! This step is important so all your Product Sets run smoothly after the 1st of July 2023. Please check the setup of all your Product Sets and Product Filters and switch all the metrics connected to GA-U to GA4.
Segments require no manual configuration. They will automatically change to GA4 once the GA4 account is connected.
