Intro
The Segments Dashboard menu shows comparisons of the performance of segments according to various criteria. Any saved segments that you define and save in Products Insights are listed in Segments Dashboard. It is the landing page after the initial setup before segment usage. The main use is to see the proportion of segments compared to your whole product inventory, and any changes over time. This is important for being able to spot opportunities and anomalies in segment performance.
The difference between Product Insights and Segments Dashboard is the nature of data calculations involving time as a value:
Product Insights shows your segments as they're defined at the moment of observation; the products which fulfill the criteria for any given segment at that time may not have applied in the past and may not be applicable in the future.
Segments Dashboard displays the composition of segments for every day separately and will provide information on products when they applied towards a segment's criteria.
Data Export
To export your data, click the "Export" button on the right side over the table view. This is limited to 10,000 products per export, and the number of exports are unlimited.
Usage
Segments are displayed according to performance, and able to be sorted by various product metrics in the columns.
At the top of the menu, options to change the Market and Date Range are available.
To change any of the metrics being sorted in the columns, in the top right click the ⚙️ gear icon (on hover, labeled "Customize Segment table"), and select your desired metrics.
At the top are options to switch between the Overview tab and the Chart View tab. The Chart View offers options to view segment information through Segments Summary, Segments Comparison, and Trend in Time.
While the types of segments charts are similar to Product insights charts, the segment charts display different information, behave differently, and have different usages. Specifically, the segments charts enable the visualization and comparison of particular segment performance in the context of certain use cases (e.g. such as margin buckets) and what their overall performance is or over time through the lens of different metrics.
To view a specific segment's data visualized in a chart, click the ellipsis button (three dots) to the right of any segment row and select "View in the chart" from the dropdown menu.
Perhaps the most important functionality of Segments Dashboard is the ability to Compare to All Products. This allows you to see the proportion of each segment in terms of product count and other selected metrics. This is crucial in understanding the opportunities available from segment-related insights.
For example, how many underperforming low-margin products are present in your product feed? What is their spend compared to the total spend?
Product Insights Navigation
Segments Dashboard operates in unison with Product Insights. There are multiple ways to access the Product Insights menu in your workflow.
To edit any segment, click the ellipsis button for any segment row and select "View detail and Edit" or "Edit Legacy Segment". This will load the Product Insights menu, where you can customize segments and calibrate the metrics and attributes which define them.
To otherwise open the Product Insights menu, click the "Segment" button in the top right or simply navigate by clicking the Product Insights button in the left menu pane.
