Intro
Advertising assets are integrated and configured from the Markets and Assets menu. It is possible to connect them from two different sources:
Meta
Google Shopping
They are available to view from the Markets and Assets menu after selecting any market.
Meta Advertising Assets
To run ads on Meta, you need an ads account. To run dynamic product ads (necessary for receiving and leveraging insights about your product spend), you need a product catalog on Meta.
All combinations of catalogs and ad accounts used for running product dynamic ads on Meta should be connected to a market to include its data for your product performance optimization. It's important to connect all pairs of catalogs and ad accounts, even if the catalog and ad account are already connected in another pair.
Meta User Permissions
To connect Meta assets to the ROIH platform, you need to have:
Advertise permission for pages and ad accounts
Admin permission for catalogs to be managed
How to Connect a Meta Advertising Asset
Navigate to Settings > Markets and Assets, select a market, and navigate to the Advertising Assets tab
In the Meta panel, click the "Add asset" button to open the Meta Ad Accounts and Catalogs panel
Fill out the entries for your Meta ad account, Meta catalog, and optionally Product Hierarchy Level
Click "Save"
The ROIH platform will now begin downloading statistics about your product performance
The associated ad account and catalog can now be used in the ROIH platform to run ads
When connecting data to a new market that has no inventory set yet, it's not possible to input the Product Hierarchy Level. If data sets are being connected to a market that has an inventory set, then the selection of the Product Hierarchy Level is optional. However, only data from assets with a correctly configured Product Hierarchy Level will be included in the segments or other PPM features.
How to Connect a Single Meta Ad Account
Some situations call for being able to connect a single ad account without a Meta catalog. For example, you may want to only use an ad account for static ads in the ROIH platform.
To do so, check the box labeled "This Ad Account will be used only for static Ads." in the Meta Ad Accounts and Catalogs panel:
Since only dynamic spend (i.e. spend from dynamic product ads) is included in product performance calculations, data from a connected ad account without a connection to a catalog won't be included in this analysis.
Additional Connection Source for Meta Data
In the ROIH platform, it's possible for you to see and use Meta data from a catalog in the Product Group Builder to create products groups directly based on Meta’s product performance.
Example of Product Group Builder with Meta data:
To perform this connection:
Navigate to Settings > Google Settings > Product Source tab, and select your relevant market
With your relevant market selected, click the "Manage" button on the right side
Navigate to the Product Data tab and click the "Connect" button next to the Meta Catalogs section
Select the relevant catalog, and click "Connect"
Google Shopping Advertising Assets
To set up Google Shopping assets, you should connect:
The ad account used for running shopping ads on Google
The relevant Product Source
The Product Source identifies sets of products being promoted in shopping ads and is a combination of:
The Google Merchant Center account
Feed label and language
All relevant product sources used in advertising should be connected to a market. If it's not clear which feed label should be used, it can be useful to go directly to the Google Merchant Center to check the setup there.
Google Shopping User Permissions
To connect a Google Ad account and Product source to the ROIH platform, you need to have:
Standard or Admin access to a Google Ad account
The relevant Google Merchant Center in use
How to Connect Google Shopping Advertising Assets
Navigate to Settings > Markets and Assets, select a market, and navigate to the Advertising Assets tab
In the Google Shopping panel, click the "Add asset" button
Fill out the required information and save it
Once the Google Ads account and Product Source are connected to a market, the ROIH platform will start to download your product performance data. This data will be available in the Google section of the ROIH platform for the possibility to use them to create ads or Product Groups.
The ROIH platform downloads product information from the Google Merchant primary feed based on the specification of the Product Source. To finalize the Product Source setup and allow the ROIH platform to create product groups used in Google Shopping ads, it is necessary to create a supplemental feed and connect it with the ROIH platform.
A supplemental feed is an additional feed that Google allows to store additional data to complement the primary source feed. It is used to send the information from Product Filters to Custom labels which is required for this feature to work.
Additional Connection Source for Meta Data
Statistics about the Google Shopping product performance are possible to connect to a Meta catalog, in order to see the statistics in the Product Insights section and use them to create product sets. This setup needs to be done separately from the market setup and is done by connecting the Google Ads Account to the selected catalog.
To properly connect advertising data to the market and include it in your product performance analysis, it is necessary to connect all pairs of the used Meta Catalog + Ad Account and Google Product Source + Ad Account to the market. Only data from connected pairs is included.
