Chapter 7: Troubleshooting Segment Prioritisation and SMART segments

Fixing SP setup issues

Why can’t I apply SP to my ad set (or why do I get an error)?

SP works in manual sales campaigns where the catalog is selected on the campaign level, as well as in app objective campaigns, as long as the ad set contains at least one dynamic product ad (DPA) linked to a catalog.

Not supported:

  • Campaigns without any dynamic product ads using a catalog (e.g. app objective campaigns using only static/non-catalog ads)

Why doesn’t my catalog show up for SP?

If your catalog doesn’t appear when setting up a strategy, it may be due to permissions or compatibility limits:

Not supported (no workaround):

  • Feedless catalogs (API-only updates) - except API integrations built and supported directly by ROI Hunter

To see if your API catalog is supported by ROI Hunter, open the catalog detail → Data Sources tab → check under Meta settings for the ROI Hunter note: ROI Hunter receives products via API and send them directly to Meta

Note: If your catalog is feedless and not supported (e.g. a native Shopify catalog), you can set up a separate catalog specifically for Segment Prioritisation, connected via ROI Hunter's feed integration. Your existing catalog remains unchanged and continues to run as before. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager, who will guide you through the setup.

⚠️ May not show up but fixable:

  • Catalogs you don’t have access to → ask for the right permissions

  • Newly connected catalogs without a ROIH feed variant → create any product set with a ROIH segment

  • Multi-feed catalogs (fixable through feed-to-API solution → contact support)

See below how to check whether a catalog has a multi-feed configuration:

What to do:

  • Check that you have access to the catalog

  • If the catalog is new, create at least one product set with a ROIH segment

  • Make sure your catalog type is supported: feedless catalogs only work if the API integration was built directly by ROI Hunter

Can I use SP on ASC campaigns?

Segment Prioritisation can be used on any A+ ad set that contains at least one dynamic ad.

Can I use SP on ad sets with non-all-products product sets?

Yes. SP applies at the ad set level, and all ads within it inherit the same prioritization. However, if ads use different non-all-products product sets, the intended SP effect cannot be guaranteed for every ad — some product sets may not include prioritized products at all, or may include them disproportionately.

Managing SP strategy limits

Why can’t I add a 6th strategy?

You can have a maximum of 5 strategies per catalog. This is a hard limit set by Meta.

What to do: If you already have 5 strategies, you’ll need to delete one before creating a new one.

Why do I see fewer than 5 strategies available?

  • It can take some time before a deleted strategy slot becomes available again.

  • Your catalog may already use product priority fields for PDP (e.g. for product scoring). Since SP relies on the same fields, fewer strategy slots may be available.

What to do:

  • Wait for the deleted slot to reset

  • Or check if your catalog is already using priority fields for another purpose (e.g. PDP or product scoring)

Why isn’t the counter updating after I deleted a strategy?

It can take time for the change to process:

  • Usually a few hours

  • For very large catalogs, up to a few days

What to do: Wait until the slot is freed. If it hasn’t updated after several days, contact support.

SMART segments troubleshooting

Why don’t I see SMART segments in my market?

SMART segments are only available in markets with solid data health. This ensures there’s enough reliable data for the algorithm to produce meaningful results.

  • In the last 21 days, your market must have:

    • At least 100 active products

    • At least €1,000 (or equivalent) Meta DPA spend

    • At least €10,000 (or equivalent) product revenue from all traffic

    • No data health metric marked red (<65%) in Dynamic Ads Overview page.

  • Product detail views (PDV) tracked and available in ROI Hunter with match rate above 65%

What to do:

  • Check if your market meets all of the above criteria

  • If it does and SMART segments are still missing, contact support.

What if my market no longer meets the criteria?

SMART segments will remain visible, but we recommend not relying on them. We cannot guarantee they will continue to work as intended if the market data health drops.

Can I see SMART segments in Product Insights?

Not yet. SMART segments are based on a weighted combination of multiple metrics that can’t be displayed with standard Product Insights filters.

Can I use SMART segments in Meta product sets?

Yes, you can.

Simply create a new Product Set and select Top Performers or Poor Performers from the Segments filter.

Can I use SMART segments on Google or Snapchat?

Snapchat

Yes - SMART Segments are available in Beta.

Google

Not yet. Google-specific SMART Segments optimized for Google data are planned for Beta release in Q2.

Do SMART segments appear automatically once a market qualifies?

Yes. Eligibility is checked daily, and SMART segments appear automatically when the criteria are met.
